CLASS STATUS: Junior or Senior
*HONORS CHEMISTRY
1 credit
This course is designed to introduce students to matter, its structure and forms, and to the principles, which govern chemical reactions. The student is encouraged to use scientific method in extension of her knowledge of the nature of matter. Mole concept, atomic theory, chemical bonding, rates of reaction, energy changes, equilibrium and acid-base theories, are among the major topics covered. Fifteen (15) mods are scheduled each cycle. In addition to these mods, approximately 6-8 mods of additional time need to be devoted to this class each week.
PREREQUISITES: Biology A and Algebra 1 & 2 and Department Recommendation.
CLASS STATUS: Junior or Senior
CHEMISTRY
1 credit
This full-year laboratory science course will introduce students to the study of matter, giving a basic understanding of elements and the periodic table as these concepts appear in everyday living. Topics will include renewable and non-renewable resources; chemical composition of foods and drugs; states of matter; environmental chemistry; nuclear chemistry; gas laws; basic organic chemistry.
PREREQUISITES: Biology, Level A or Level B
CLASS STATUS: Junior or Senior
*ACC CHEMISTRY 1
.5 credit
This is the third semester course in chemistry. Topics include a review and deeper investigations of first year topics such as stoichiometry and atomic structure, and includes organic and bio-organic chemistry. This course is an excellent preparation for those interested in pursuing a career in science such as nursing, pre-med., physical therapy, or engineering. Upon completion of course requirements, the student will receive .5 high school credit and/or 4 college credit hours of chemistry from Saint Louis University.
PREREQUISITE: *Honors Chemistry and Department Recommendation
CLASS STATUS: Senior
*ACC CHEMISTRY 2
.5 credit
This is the fourth semester course in chemistry. Topics covered include kinetics, equilibrium, acid-base chemistry, thermodynamics and electrochemistry. Upon completion of course requirements, the student will receive .5 high school credit and/or 4 college credit hours of chemistry from Saint Louis University. (Upon completion of this course the student will have had the equivalent of a year of college level chemistry.)
